Griha Pravesh (or House Warming) Puja

A Griha Pravesh (or House Warming) ceremony is performed, when one enters a new home for the first time. It is important, not just for the owner but also for the entire family.

Griha Pravesh is seen as a holistic occasion to keep away the evil forces from your household.  So as your home becomes ready to occupy, select an auspicious mahurat on which you and your family can conduct the house warming ceremony.

It is advisable to consult your Guruji for suitable Graha–Nakshatra before proceeding with the ceremony.

Having our own house is the dream of everyone’s life.  when we go to a new house, we enter with the hope that happiness, peace and prosperity will always remain in the house. This is called worship of home entry. House entry ceremony is done for the purification of the house and for the sake of peace.

There is a common belief that there should be no bad omens during the griha pravesh and hence, people take precautions like scheduling the ceremony during a ‘Shubha mahurat’ and performing rituals like a puja, havan, etc., with the help of a pandit.

Moreover, after the griha pravesh, the home should not be left vacant and at least one person must live in it. So, ensure that home is complete in all aspects, before you enter your new home.

In the new house, we enter with new hopes and dreams. In such a way, worship and havan are very important. There is a belief among Hindus that before entering the house, worshiping and havan brings happiness in the house and God resides. At times, it happens that Vastu is not given too much attention while making the house, in such a way, all these things are purified during worship.

Griha Pravesh in Ashwin is considered inauspicious. Avoid shifting to your new home during this period as it could bring losses, health issues and troubles. However, house-warming during Navratri is considered auspicious. Consult your Guruji for this.
